Abstract
Oral oxycodone is one of the most commonly used opioids in the treatment of cancer pain. A parenteral form of oxycodone has been released and used for about a year in Korea. It has not yet been widely used in Korea, especially for cancer patients, and we report 3 cases on its use in cancer patients, where palliative operation and chemotherapy with oral pain medication containing opioids, all failed to successfully control the intractable pain, whereas intravenous (IV) oxycodone patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) resulted in satisfactory pain relief, without causing significant side effects. Oxycodone IV PCA may be safely used in cancer patients with equivalent or superior potency compared to other types of opioids.
